Dr. Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing the North-west, has urged the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdulahi Ganduje, to either align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for advancing Nigerian democracy or step down from his position.
In a letter dated April 2, 2024, addressed to Ganduje and disclosed to the media in Kaduna on Thursday, Lukman conveyed his concerns regarding what he sees as a contradiction between Ganduje’s leadership stance and Tinubu’s vision.
He expressed disappointment with Ganduje’s failure to uphold constitutional principles within the party, especially following his controversial ascension to the role of National Chairman.
Lukman highlighted several issues, including the absence of National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings during Ganduje’s eight months of leadership, despite the requirement for quarterly meetings. He also lamented the lack of quarterly financial reports detailing the party’s income and expenditure.
Moreover, Lukman criticized the absence of annual national budgets, which has resulted in a lack of a clearly defined funding framework for the party, leaving the National Working Committee (NWC) and its members reliant on elected representatives for financial support.
He stated, “With all that has taken place since your emergence as the APC National Chairman, it is very easy to conclude that you have simply repeated and deepened all the mistakes of past APC leadership.”
Lukman pointed out that under Ganduje’s leadership, the party organization has significantly weakened in nearly all states of the North-West region, Ganduje’s home region.
He further added, “Under your watch, you are unable to regulate the excessive conduct of some leaders. Consequently, leadership crisis is snowballing in many states with hardly any visible indication of efforts from your leadership to intervene and resolve the issues.”
In conclusion, Lukman urged Ganduje to reconsider his leadership approach and align with Tinubu’s vision for Nigerian democracy or step down from his position as National Chairman.
