Democracy Day: FG declares June 12 Public Holiday

To honor Democracy Day this year, the Federal Government has designated Wednesday, June 12, to be a public holiday.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, Nigerians were congratulated on the event by the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

The statement said, in part, “Let us all reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains a united, secure, peaceful, and indivisible entity as we mark another Democracy Day in the history of our dear country.”

He pleaded with Nigerians to hold faithful to the principles of democratic government.

President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to enacting constructive measures to boost security and the country’s economy, Tunji-Ojo continued.

The announcement also stated, “The minister urged Nigerians and friends of Nigeria to recognize the progress made and look forward to a better future for Nigeria’s democracy.”
